Glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhizinic acid or glycyrrhizic acid, is the active principle of licorice root. It is a powerful sweetener, 30–50 times as potent as sucrose. Monoammonium Glycyrrhizinic acid (MAG) is the water soluble delivery form of Glycyrrhizinic acid. It is used as an anti-inflammatory and anti- allergic remedy for the treatment of bronchial asthma and other diseases. It finds applications as a flavor enhancer and flavoring agents in various food categories. Topically, MAG can be used in the form of creams or water based gels in the management of eczema and other skin disorders.
